Give the people more of this! Thrillers like these never get old, a normal guy who is actually a murderer going after his ex-girlfriend, it's a classic! Now I understand why there was so much press surrounding 'James', George MacKay (James) gave a brilliant performance as he flawlessly switched from businessman to murderer, and not to forget Emma Watson (Erin) with her heartfelt and jaw dropping performance after her character left James from an eight year relationship. Of course the film did not end here, no this was only the beginning.
For those who are yet to watch 'James' (spoilers free), it takes place in a modern day London, where we find out in the trailer and very early on in the film, that James and Erin have been together for eight years, engaged for a couple of months. However, because of James' temper, especially with the stress of his job, Erin takes the painful decision to leave him, clearly unaware of the consequences. Implied by various movie posters and the trailer, this leads James down a murderous path, seeking revenge on many women who suspiciously look a lot like Erin.
I don't want to spoil anything, especially as the film has not been out for a respectable amount of time for me to do so, but a scene that really stood out to me was when James was looking for his next victim, played by Daisy Edgar Jones, on the train, which we see a glimpse of in the trailer.

I particularly liked this scene because the song 'Psycho Killer' was playing by the Talking Heads, it was as if James was implying who he was and what his intentions were without even telling the audience directly. The lyrics that I found most relate to him are , "I can't seem to face up to the facts", "You're talking a lot but you're not saying anything" and "I hate people when they're not polite", these all suggest that James is arrogant and that he has strong opinions of others. Additionally , I found that when analysing the character of James, his way of thinking and his actions have strong intertextuality to the character of Patrick Bateman (played by Christian Bale) in American Psycho, a wealthy and sadistic businessman who strives to appear better than anyone else in his trade. I believe that is why the film is so widely appreciated by so many film critics and movie enthusiasts, each character seems familiar yet so unique in their own way and it has one amazing soundtrack.
